TVBA believes the involvement of players in the local domestic competition plays a vital role in fostering a strong foundation for our association’s development.

To be eligible for the 2027 Representative Season, athletes must have played in either Season 1 or 2 in 2026 or be registered to play in Season 1 in 2027.

Any athlete who has not played in 2026 domestically, is selected in a Representative Team and then does not play in Season 1 of the 2027 Domestic Competition will lose their Representative eligibility.

Any exemptions to this rule will be assessed on a case-by case basis by the TVBA Board.

If an athlete is unable to trial due to injury a Special Consideration can be applied for.

To apply for a Special Consideration the athlete must still first register for the trial. The athlete can then contact TVBA to request a Special Consideration and provide medical documentation to substantiate their absence from the trial.

Acceptance is not guaranteed and Special Considerations are assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Athletes who attain a Special Consideration are still expected to be present during the trial.

We cannot guarantee that the athlete will be selected, regardless of whether a Special Consideration is attained, and priority must be given to the athletes who do attend and trial.

Our selectors are looking for:

• Coachability

• Athletic Ability and Potential

• Playing Ability

• Teamwork

• Attitude

• Composition and Balance of Teams

Selectors are ensuring that players and parents align with TVBA’s Culture and Values.

Training is compulsory for all players, with all Representative Teams training twice per week.

We expect our athletes to prioritise and attend all trainings. If attendance slips below 85% a discussion will be initiated between the player, parent and coach.

Attendance and participation at training is important, both in developing the players full ability and in fulfilling the obligation each player has to their team and coach.

• Selectors will act with integrity and objectivity in all aspects of the selection process.

• Selectors will reserve all judgement of a player until after an observation period.

• Selectors will handing all coaching and team issues in a calm, mature and non-emotive manner to allow for positive resolutions.

• Selectors will complete an individual assessment of each athlete prior to panel discussion.

There will be a fee for each athlete registering to trial, this will be required during the registration process through Basketball Connect and is non-refundable. This fee helps to cover the considerable costs associated with hiring courts for the trials. Please note that our coaches are unpaid volunteers and donate a considerable amount of time and effort.

More information about our Representative Program fees for those athletes selected can be found in the Representative Handbook. These fees are based on costs set by Basketball NSW and we are limited to when they announce these for the upcoming representative season.
